Sorry for the late reply all, I've been busy lately.
I think it may be cured. I took what seemed to be the easiest fix as suggested by MrMD and uninstalled flash player. After that I spent 1/2hr trying to crash my PC and couldn't.....
I not saying it's fixed as occasionally it would go that long without crashing but it's looking promising. I give it a proper test when I have more time.
