Computer Keeps Crashing

Hi

Recently just build a new machine and it keeps crashing. I first I thought it was isolated to one game but it has since done it while browsing the web and in other programs. What happens is I can still move the mouse but everything is locked and not responsive, when I Ctrl + Alt + Del it takes me to a screen saying preparing security options and hangs there indefinitely.

I have multiple application errors in event viewer and critical errors but I think the critical ones are down to me having to power off the pc to restart. As for how many times this has happend in the game I have had 4 restarts in the last 24 hrs.

I ran prime 95 for 12 hours with no problems beceause I was planning to overclock the cpu but since its not stable day to day I haven't made any progress on that.

Only thing strange I noticed was sometimes when I start a game it says "Can't find DirectX please make sure it is installed" or something along those lines so i'm going to update that and see what happens.

Also crossed my mind was a PSU issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

checked temps? DL realtemps or HWMonitor or any other decent proggy.. check idle and ingame.

if its just started happenin, tried a quick system restore to before it started?

I have been monitoring temps as that crossed my mind to , they all seem within the limits. At one point due to my stupidness I did forget to plug the CPU cooler pump in and the temp was 100c do you think that could have caused a problem ?

*Also no this isn't a recent thing has been going on for couple of weeks now.

yeah check temperatures, however the cpu should throttle back to stop its self overheating and causing a crash. I would have a look on ocz's website and see if they have software to check SSD's as i have heard of some problem with them ion the past. Also with a new build i would say its work re seating all your components and power cables just in case, it is amazing how many things can be fixed by that

Ok I just installed a 3rd party SSD benchmark program and it says my SSD is running at 128c , Sounds like a false reading ?

Try flashing your SSD to a newer firmwire. With earlier frimwire versions the OCZ drives had quite a few problems. This hopefully should help stability, and sort out the false reading.

How hot does the 590 get? I think some of these had cooling problems as well with the VRMs... could also be another factor causing the crash.

The 590 doesn't get much hotter than 70C while gaming and usualy sits at 40c idle. I have good airflow in the case with one fan pulling almost directly into the 590s fan and the others to direct the air flow. The computer stopped responding today again but I noticed it was when I tried to use a program that was stored on a different hard drive where I have some programs installed. The drive didn't spin up and the computer just froze, I normaly have a few things running at once and was thinking it may be the cause. I'm going to update the SDD firmware and leave that with my other storage HDD and remove the other ones to see if there is any difference.
