Computer keeps freezing

my computer keeps freezing

Q660
4GB RAM
720 GB Hard Drive

it just randomly started freezing, but when i do CTRL + ALT + DEL and open task manager it suddenly unfreezes for about 2 minutes but then it freezes again, so i have to open task manager again...

any suggestions??? running AVG Anti virus scan now

could be a virus.
could be a screwed OS.

could be bad memory, or unstable memory, you overclocked recently?
If none of the above, do a fresh OS install.

it just randomly happened....

ive done a partial recovery (vista)

its still randomly freezing until i open task manager...............whats the solution to this, it cant be a big problem

First thing I would do is get process explorer running which will enable you to tell if it's a specific program causing the freezes. Keep it running and see what's going on when the freezes happen. If this turns up nothing, then start running some diag utilites for your RAM and HDD to be sure.

ive installed a new OS (Windows 7) and done a FULL format, it is still freezing. about to run memtest86 i will post results after its completed, meanwhile anybody got any suggestions of what to do

DId you run seeral passes of memtest or not?
You posted back several times, but the time in between doesn't seem suitable for several passes of memtest from a dos disk, so what were the results?

Try in different HD. May be your HDD is faulty

Its cold -5 tonight i do not wonder your pc freezing! try to wrap it and keep it warm, put heater next to it!!

i done memtest NO problems

i done check disc on C Drive, no problems.

im really confused, this freezing has totally come out the blue, somebody got a solution to this, its doing my head in

WHat are your cpu and gpu temps like under load?

Can you survive furmark and IBT?

tried changing sata lead?

did you fiddle with any bios settings recently?

You haven't posted your temps.

If it's not a temp issue, it sounds like a hardware fault, either hard drive or RAM. Did you run a full disc scan? Have you tried swapping out a RAM stick?

Have a look in the event viewer to see if anything pops up during/around the time it freezes up. I'd also be thinking about unplugging stuff from the motherboard - optical drives, usb ports etc. in case anything has developed a fault.

Good point. I know someone who had random freezes as a result of a faulty router.

God its still randomly freezing all i have to do is open task manager then it will unfreeze for about 10-15 minutes....cmon guys what can i do that i havent already done.
