Computer keeps shutting off

Hello
I was playing battlefield 4 for the first time on this pc. It is a new pc and this is the first game I played on it. It worked fine for the first few minutes and then without warning, the pc just switched off.
I thought there is something wrong with the gpu so i ran a unique valley engine test on extreme hd. It ran 14/18 scenes and then again switched off. Is it the gpu's fault or maybe the psu?
Edit: I ran the unique benchmark three times and it always crashed on scene 15.
Also, earlier today, the pc's screen had switched of but the computer was still running. I looked at the back and saw that all the ports of the back were not working. The mouse and keyboard led's were off.
I had to shut the pc of via the psu button and then restart it.

while it was running the benchmark did you notice what temp the gpu was at?
also which corsair PSU is installed is it the CX500w?

I did the benchmark again until around scene 12, then alt tab'd out to see the temp, it was 95C... WTF ****** **** *****

yip this is way to high.. take the side off and see if the fans are turning n the gpu. also make sure the heatsink is clean.
 
Yeah I didn't but those GPUs run hot anyway. 95 is too high though, I think mine runs about 80-85. I would expect the GPU to fail with artifacts rather than the PC to shut off. A shut off is usually triggered by the PSU not handling the load being drawn so it just gives up.
 
There could be two things at play - 290s can get really hot, especially some of them, creating a custom fan profile may help here. The other thing is that a Corsair CX500 (if that's the PSU in question) is a terrible companion to a 290, and plenty of users have had to change PSU after similar issues on similar setups. It doesn't provide 500W on the 12v rail which the CPU and GPU use. More like 400W, and the PSU is only rated for 30C temp, above that it provides even less power which can cause the GPU to shut off. If the GPU is running so hot, it could be adding to the PSU temperature as well.

Ive not had experience with the 290's my only AMD card has been a 7950 and it could get to 80c but never 95c..
I do agree with the CX PSU hence I asked if it was a CX as I had the 750M in my machine and it gave me bad coil whine from my 970 but after I changed PSU the coil whine disappeared.
I fitted the CX into my lads machine running my old FX8350 and 7950 and it died with less than a years use.

I got a replacement which looks like a different version and its now running my youngest lads machine powering an i5 4590 and a 580 which so far its been ok.
 
yeah it is a cx500.

I ran unique valley again and checked the fans. All 3 of them were not moving. It was working earlier. I restarted the computer and still nothing. Doesnt move from restart.

do you have any software installed that can control the fans? ie msi afterburner?

I tried that. Put it on max, doesn't move at all.
Yesterday it was working perfectly, the fan could go at 4500rpm at max, I was playing around with it but didn't save any settings. Everything is at default
 
if its still under warranty yes I would RMA it if the fans are not working.
can you turn them by hand? there is nothing stopping them from turning?

I also find it strange that all 3 fans have stopped at the same time. which card is it you have?
My old Asus strix 970 one of its fans went bad when it was only a few weeks old but its strange that all 3 have stopped
