Hey there,
I was wondering if you could help me with something recently my computers just started turning off by itself
I've been reading and a lot of people have this problem and it's their power supply but I wanted to get another opinion

it normally happens when i have a few things running.. but my computer used to handle a lot more then i had running. it's usually just a few internet pages and skype plus a ****ty game like from miniclip lol

My system specs are
CPU : asus Q9950 @ 2.83
GPU : radeon 4870
PSU: 750w thermamaltake
RAM : 8gb that's all i can remember :/

if theres anything else you want to know please let me know
any help would be appriciated

Do you get an warning message / BSOD error code?

Possible overheating due to clogged up fans and intakes. Have you looked inside the system to see if it needs a clean out?

Nah no warning or bosd
I've tried there's a little bit left I'll try fully clean it tonight
There's not much really
And if one of the fans was clogged wouldn't I hear one of them go off before it shuts off ?

Download core temp and keep that running. If you keep an eye on that you can check if it's overheating.

If it's not then it's most likely the PSU. Memory or GFX problems would give you a BSOD rather than a shutdown.

Okay cheers I'll do that :)
Have you got any idea if this would slow down the computer because I sware it lags so much more and can't have as much open

Okay cheers :)
What sort of temperatures should I consider normal ?
And I was thinking of getting one of those CPU coolers if it is overheating do you think that could solve it ?

An Intel CPU will shut itself down if the core temperatures reach 100C. Normal temperatures on the stock cooler are around 40C idle and around 70C load. If you aren't overclocking the stock cooler should be fine. It may need removing and refitting with some new thermal paste, or it could be clogged with dust or the fan may have stopped working.

Until you check the temperatures we don't know for certain it is an overheating problem though :)
