Computer literacy is still a huge problem

Just want to rant. I am so sick of dealing with people who don't even have the most basic computer skills. So many people don't know what a web browser is, what browser tabs are, how to copy and paste, how to filter on a spreadsheet, how to use file managers, how to drag and drop files, how to edit office documents. And this is on a professional capacity. When are these people going to go away?! How on earth do they live in modern Britain and not know these things?!

Rant over.

We've got one of these at work. He is left handed so has to move the mouse over and types with one finger. He doesn't capitalize anything and his emails look like they'd be more suited to crayons than a keyboard. It doesn't matter how many times I explain things, he just doesn't get it. Nothing sticks. As infuriating as it is, he's our best-intentioned staff member and always tries so we let it go.

Nothing, it just looks bloody awkward :p

(I'm a lefty myself, I just learned to use my right hand so I don't look silly)

I am genuinely stunned at times by the lack of computer literacy around me considering our work is almost entirely computer based these days (accountant). My generation (20s) has poor general Excel skills etc leaving them to do tasks manually over hours that can be done in minutes with Excel. The older generation struggles with even basic stuff like printing. There's no excuse really as we've all had computers long enough to pick it up, just people are unwilling to learn. When confronted with a problem, rather than trying to think laterally around it and acquire new skills to do it more efficiently, they'd rather just plow on manually.

Nothing silly about it. 10% of the world population are left-handed. If a righty can't deal with your uniqueness, that's their problem :p

I'm shocked how many people don't know that within windows, if you hold the Alt key and then press F4 you get a prompt which will have a solution for virtually any problem you're experiencing.

I'm glad people don't know how to use computers, it keeps me employed :D

Admittedly though, it would still make my life easier if everyone at least had a basic understanding.

It works both ways as I've dealt with IT people / helpdesk people who lack even the basics about computers, know simple stuff. Can't resolve or take ages to fix issues.

I have no degree in computing/ no experience so cant get a job in it but most basic computing jobs need a degree so there's no real excuse. :)

At least in the OP's case a lot of people don't have any IT/Computing related qualifications so their somewhat excused.
