Computer names

I read an article about PC/Server naming recently and the best one I saw was someone naming servers after species of tree, e.g. Maple, Cherry, Oak. Obviously this is for a corporate type environment but it had a certain sense of professionalism while still breaking the mould of "DC1" and "FILESTORE" type names

Me on the other hand; it's generally just Martins-PC, Martins-Laptop, Martins-iPhone etc etc lol

Similar theme here; I named mine Mandelbrot. Previous system was dubbed Frankenstein on account of the fact the only other desktop in the house is made up of hand-me-down parts.

I call it Monster.

Whatever Windows defaults to I choose, before Windows made suggestions I used the same names as Windows defaults to now but without the hyphen.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with armoured trucks...

PTU is an abbreviation for some pointless gaming group thing i made up. And my computer is Head Quarters/Base of operations.

once again, nothing to do with trucks.

For some reason i name mine after characters out of religious books. (I'm not religious)

Desktop = Judas
MacBook = Moses
Windows laptop = Allah

A customer I used to visit used starwars and startrek names for their hosts, which thoroughly confused visitors!

I use a similar theme:
PC 1: Deepthought
PC 2: Ford (used to be Ford Prefect, but dropped the second word on the third iteration)
Server: Zaphod
Laptop: Arthur (as in Dent, Arthur Dent)
Weather Server: Slartibartfast
Media PC: Marvin

I let the missus name the machines,

Network is called MAGMA

Gaming Rig = Vesuvius
Gamingl Laptop = Taupo
iMac = Pinatubo
TV Bed Laptop = Hekla
WHS = FUJI
Work Laptop = Colima
Media Centre PC = Anak

I once worked in an office where the PCs were named after chemical elements. In the days before DHCP, the PC with a .1 address was called Hydrogen. The next one, with .2 was Helium, then Boron, Carbon and so on.

However, one poor sod ended up with a PC named Arsenic, and he left the company just after that. His replacment was given the same PC and only stayed with us for two weeks
