My new PC was working for about a day just fine until yesterday night when all of a sudden I went to turn it on and it wouldn't start properly! The machine starts up for about a second and the fan starts etc then it cuts off.. It will then come back again only to again, cut off. I have used different wall sockets, power cables and checked my connections in the case and still nothing..

What are my next step(s)???

Thankss!

IS the system clocked and what is the complete spec?

For now detatch all the hdds, dvds etc - leaving only the gfx card, 1 stick of memory and the CPU/HS installed

Clear the CMOS.

Then test to see if you can get into the BIOS - if you can load optimised defaults and post back.

No its not

i5
ocz psu
sony optical drive
500gb western digital hdd
geforce gtx 460 gfx
gigabyte intel (1155 socket) motherboard

Try the above and see if you get any signs of life.

While you're routing around the insides of your case make sure that the MB is securely fitted to the risers and there isn't any movement.

Try these steps first. There really isn't anything else you can try at this stage and you've tried each stick of ram individually. If you still can't get into the bios after taking the above steps, unplug and completely remove your graphics card and swap the monitor cable to use the on board VGA (if your mobo has it) and try to access the bios again. If you can get access, then your GPU may be at fault.

If you don't have on board VGA, i would try the psu unit on another machine. If that works ok, then either your GPU or mobo is on the blink, most likely the GPU if the mobo booted on the built in VGA.

Just bear in mind that a mobo only needs 1 stick of ram, a cpu and a psu to get into the bios, so whilst doing the process of elimination, keep the bare minimum that the mobo needs (1 stick of ram and the cpu) Keep everything else disconnected until you fix it.
