Ok so my cousin has a crapard bell computer that isn't booting up. He said he reformatted it using the master cd's then when he tried to uninstall aol the computer wouldn't turn on any more, it gets to the post screen then it just goes blank, when he tries to use the master cds, they start up, then the screen goes black, I'm assuming it's probably a hdd failure, how I can't possible imagine, but I am willing to bet the hdds included in these pc's are crap.

When I go to try to fix it I will run chkdsk through an xp installation cd, and perhaps try memtest86, I can't think of anything else it could be, motherboard seems unlikely as does dvd drive judging by what caused it. Can't try flashing the bios either as I have no idea what motherboard it's using.

PC should still start up regardless wether there is a HDD or not attached, the last shop bought PC i had was a PB too, although yes they are useless mine came with a Seagate Barracuda drive, so not too shabby at all.

If its not powering on then i'd say power supply or mobo :)

EDIT: soz just re read post and see it does power up, could still be the HDD regardless of quality anyway, my entire post is rendered useless lol. Soz
