Hi Guys,

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but i've got nowhere left to go!

I bought an SSD for my Asus P6X58D motherboard and it got delivered yesterday. Upon installing the SSD, plugging in the power cable and sata3 cable, put everything back together, pressed my power button and it doesnt load up!

Basically, when i press the power button, my fans and lights turn on for about half a second, then immidiently turn off again. The mobo is receiving power to it as there are power buttons and reset buttons glowing on the mobo itself.

I've taken out all components (ram, gcards, network cards, hdd's/ssd's) and i still cant get it to boot. I tried using an old PSU i've got laying around the place, plugged it in and there is power again going to the mobo as the lights appear, however, when turning on this time, the fans/lights dont even try to turn on.

Could do people think this is a problem with my mobo or PSU? Im stuck and really need help! I wanna paly skyrim!!!!

Thanks for the replies guys.

I forgot to mention i took the cmos battery out for 30 mins and reseated it. Made no difference.

I did disconnect the other HDD completly when trying to install the os on my new SSD. Thanks for that though :)

Can you take a pic of your board with just the below plugged in?
it sounds like something is getting enough power. remove all the power leads and try putting them back in. Especially the PCI-e to the graphics card and the 4/8pin to the CPU.

Have you set boot priority in bios,as dvd first boot? you probably did this already but only thing i can think of as i just fitted an ssd myself

Its not even turning on, let alone letting me into bios! xD

Before i got this SSD i've got now (kingston hyperx) i had two ocz agility 3's in raid0. Those worked fine when i installed them, but after reading stuff about how unreliable they are, i decided to trade up and get the kingston instead.

Took the old SSD's out, put in new SSD, and this is where i am. Just not turning on.

If you have just the motherboard and ram installed (and cpu obviously) and power it on, what happens?

only connectors are the 24pin mobo and the 8pin cpu.

in theory the fans should spin up and you should get some POST beep codes.

Tried it with that last night (and with the ram out) i got no mobo beeps, fans try to spin up for half a second and then stop again.

I'll try it again tonight with ALL cables except 24 and 8pin, but i fear its still not gonna turn on/flash/beep w/e.

OOh, yeah i understand. I did try booting with just both gcards out, ram out, hdd's out and all sata cables unplugged. Still no beeps or boot :(

I've not tried ALL the above with a spare PSU.

Wasnt sure i plugged it in correctly. I plugged in the big 24pin into the mobo but my spare psu doesnt have an 8pin cpu power port, it only has a 4pin. Does this make a difference?

Power was still going to the board as the lights were on, but when i turned it on, fans didnt even try go spin and no other lights appeared. Atleast with my normal PSU, fans attempt to spin, albeit for half a second!

Note- Sorry i did try with spare PSU with all ram and gcards out, same problem as before. Not took out all fan power cables n shiz though. Would it make a difference?

What brand and model number is that PSU ? Also what brand and model number was the test PSU you tried too ? Watts mean nothing, too many cheap PSUs floating about these days with with high wattage rating but can't even power a casio calculator correctly. Also have you made sure to plug in the CPU 8 pin cable, it is near the CPU normally that plug ? Also if you have used the short the pins method with the clear BIOS/CMOS jumper, did you remember to set the jumper back to normal position ?
