Hello all, a friend of mine was having some problems with her PC its a HP Compaq Dx2400 with 1gb of ddr2 PC2-6400 memory 250gb Seagate sata hdd, Intel Pentium dual core E2180 @200ghz, and a IPIBL-LB m/board.
So I said Id have a look at it for her thinking it would be just a matter of reinstalling windows onto it, how wrong was I. I cant get the dam thing to stay on long enough to boot it, it gets as far as windows is loading files and then reboots itself. I have check the memory with memtest and it came back with no problems, I have changed the psu with the same result, changed the hdd, cleaned the old thermal paste and applied new paste all with the same result! Reboot
Cant think of much else to do I don't have access to a new processor or mobo!

Could be the power supply capping out as the drivers start loading and the power starts being used.

Does it boot in safe mode?

try and boot from a windows / unix cd, this will prove there is or is not a hardware issue.

it may be her windows is corrupt (the initial issue) but there is some driver issue with the new install..

make sure in the bios SATA is set to legacy or compatible mode....

i think you can download a ubuntu bootable cd iso, it will at least prove you have a good (or bad) system

I cant get into safe mode because I formatted the hdd so when I try to get into safe mode it tells me the boot manager is missing, Im trying to install windows vista business (which is the oem os) onto 160gb hdd I have as I type im at 80% atm without a reboot! Ill keep you informed (thanks for all the replys)

Rebooted @90% :(
