Hi there,

I'm having a problem with my dads pc. All of a sudden it's decided that it doesnt want to load into windows...

When I turn it on, it posts then trys to load windows but half way through loading it restarts itself. It also displays a blue screen but it dissapears too quickly to read anything thats on it.

Usually in this scenario I'd just band the windows disc in and do a complete format. But we have some photos and word documents that we need to keep.

I've tried using the recovery disc that came with the pc and that takes me to a recovery console.

I've also tried taking the hard drive out and putting it in my pc, to get the stuff off, but i just get an error saying that it cant perform inpage operation.

Can anyone help?

Thanks, Mike :)

sounds like the hdd is dying...

what u need is a piece of software called BART PE....

That you can boot from CD and which acts as a temporary OS allowing you to go in and recover whatever you like then reformat...

However you will need to add your hdd from your pc or an external HDD to copy all the pics from your dads pc onto....

first of all Dont Panic!!
Second, go here and download that ISO image file, Bart's PE >> http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/
Third burn it on a CD as Fatal has described here >> http://65.24.134.81/KipSolutions/Bo...rom/BartsPE.htm
Edit: attach your hdd to your dads system
Forth start your dads system, set the boot order in BIOS to boot from the CD first
Fifth insert this Bart's CD and restart the system
System will boot from this CD.. and you will get a windows like envrionment
now from here you can open the contents of the C: drive on your dads pc "select total commander" from BART PE menus

On the left will be your dads hdd on the right select yours then simply drag and drop whatever you wanna backup

Goodluck

Is the actual ISO available to download on that site? Or do I have to use the program to create it? I've tried the latter but the ISO doesn't seem to be showing up.

Ahh just checked the log and it says:

"Builder has stopped because there are 154 build errors
ISO image is not created, you must fix the errors!"

Whys this then? Is it because I'm having to get the correct files straight off my winxp disc?

Also, do I have to use my HDD to transfer the files to? Could I use a USB flash drive?

Thanks :)

Well it must have been the HDD, because now It's totally died. Switched it from my pc to my dads and it just wont power up.

So... can anyone reccomend a nice and reliable HDD around 120GB. Must be IDE.

Many thanks
