Over the last few days, my computer has started crashing frequently, with a high pitched whine coming from the PSU. It would boot into windows ok, run for around 20 minutes and then either freeze or crash.
Then it started having problems booting. It would hang on one of the post screens with severe artefacting, messed up colours and writing etc, which I attributed to the graphics card beginning to die.
It now refuses to turn on at all. Flicking the PSU switch at the back gives a high pitched whine but turning the power on doesn't even start the fans going. It's completely dead.
Obviously, my first guess is that the PSU has died, which also caused the graphics card artefacting due to unsteady power delivery? However, before I go and buy a replacement PSU, has anyone got any suggestions as to anything else that may be causing the problem?
Thanks all.
btw, system spec is:
Antec Sonata 2 case and PSU (450W), Athlon XP2100, 512mb geil value, 9800pro, ASUS A7N8X deluxe m/b
