Computer problems

Hi All

Just been on my computer and all of a sudden it restarted itself.Now it just restarts and says it couldnt start windows properly.It gives me a few option safe mode and last safe settings etc but everytime it does the same and restarts.
It is probably 5 year old pc .Athlon 64 3000+ 1 gb ram old 256mb agp gfx card,200 gb Hard drive.
Does any 1 have any ideas???
If worst comes to worse is there any way i could get my data off the old IDE hard drive.

This may become a spec me thread as well now

£700 tops i would need an OS with that but no monitor have a samsung 19 inch at the moment

what ya mainly use the PC for? but erm that sounds like a knackered HDD

mainly general internet use and some gaming.So it sounds like the HDD has died.great.All my music and films gone.lol

hmm on the boot up its not detecting the hard drive on either the master or slave settings at all now.Well thats annoying because my copy of XP was in a hidden partition on the HDD so that will be lost as well.I wish they had given me a cd now stupid TINY pc's.
Now i know why people say to back up stuff.so for what its worth i dont think there is any point in buying a new hard drive and OS for such an old computer.
Is there anyway i could get a download from microsoft to replace my xp that went awol.I still have the product key etc on the back of the system and i may be able to get an old HDD from work.
Or i may just get a new PC.
Any1 want to spec me a gaming pc that is for minimum settings that will last for 3 years roughly.

erm xp you can source a copy online

as long as you have the key you will be fine

however you could try the good old punch my hard drive to make it work trick if you want to back it up after you've built a new pc

this spec is an option tho spec'd it on another thread b4

give me 2 mins to use your full 700£

Both specs seem fine.Would a 4890 not be a bit overkill for a 19inch widescreen though.I would probably get a cheaper case to.
I am leaning towards the 1st spec but with a 720 in it.

Off to try and find an old HDD now as i cant get a new pc for 3 weeks as im on my honeymoon shortly.

Damn computer .What a time to break when i need to order things for the wedding
