any reason why this may happen

i7 930 w/ stock cooler.
2gb ram (had to remove 1 2gb as it had failed or was not allowing computer to boot, not sure if it is the other 2gb causing the problem, running a memtest as we speak)
win7 ult 32bit
800w Corsair GS PSU
560ti asus gfx card.

I had something similar to this happen to me recently.

Have you tried uninstalling your drivers completely and installing the latest drivers for your graphics card along with making sure you have the latest updates + DirectX version installed? That fixed it for me.

in addition to this when it shuts-down and trys to restart it cannot boot and a red light appears at the front of the case.(this happends only sometimes)

I you have frame shuttering from time to time in games and inconsistant performance
It is the PSU

If you get restart in windows as well it is the ram

Any new hardware or software at all?:
If so get read of them
To remuve software as culprit install win trile on another hdd

that could possibly rule out the psu as my performance during the game play that i get at high settings is impeccable, it just all of a sudden turns off after 3-5mins i can run games on lowish to medium but when hit it up to high or ultra bang thats when it turns off after 5mins or so.

any who ive been needing to upgrade the cpu cooler and ram anyway so thats what im gonna do first of all (Also gonna tidy the wiring within the case just to make sure its nothing like that)

install Blue screen viewer and it'll give you some more information about what actually happens during your restarts, saying what driver ( if any) is corrupt etc.

I had the same issue and that told me I had some corrupt drivers

event log says this.
Source : Kernel-Power
Event ID : 41
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

dunno if this will help you guys diagnose the problem but here it is.

Hmm, run HWMonitor and see what temps your GPU + CPU get up to while gaming. I have a 560Ti too. Drivers crash when It hits 92'c as the Voltage is not enough, but then mine is overclocked.

If it overheats it will shut off. Periodically check GPU + CPU Temps while gaming by ALT-Tabbing unless you have a second screen.

Then post back with temps!
