Computer really slow and 100% cpu usage all the while

My laptop has gone slow all of a sudden, in device manager the cpu usage is on 100% all the while and its a process called lsass.exe causing it.

It also make my internet stop working.

got an idea it might be a trogen or virus - whats the best program to scan with to check?

Double check the actual spelling of that process first.

Is it Isass.exe or lsass.exe?

One uses a lowercase L and the other uses a capital I. Hard to see the difference in the processes view but one is a trojan.

The correct Microsoft one uses a lowercase L.

i have run counterspy and that did find a trogen - i deleted that and it doesnt find any more.
 
Trouble is, you can't tell by looking at the spelling.

But as it's running under the Philip user at 85% I bet it's a trojan, it should be a System process.
You'll need to scan the system with something. Can't use an online scanner though so you'll have to use a different method.
 
Right i have 2 lsass.exe processes running both spelt the same one is a system process and the other is a user process - any ideas please
 
Yes. The one NOt running as a Sytem process is most likely a trojan and they aren't spelt the same. One is lowercase L and one isn't.
