If the R in RAID stands for Redundant, why is there no redundancy in RAID 0? Always been confused by that one.

Because it can be layered upon another type of RAID (like RAID 1) which would give it redundancy :~)

I can't do applications like Office, Photoshop etc. If I want to do anything beyond basic formulas in Excel I need tutorials\help. Just getting my head around the Photoshop basics really gives me a headache.

I do do servers, mostly MS Servers (MCSE 2003 with Security see? ) but I can do Linux(PHP, MySQl, Apache et al) to a reasonable level including doing a Gentoo compile!. Currently I am trying to learn more SQL\Database administration.

No real problem with networking as I have a CCNA thing (but subnetting still causes me to wince, and forget supernetting! )

Oh and I have the Finger of Death[tm] when it comes to installing components. Seriously, if it goes in a computer and I touch it - it dies. Thank god this curse only applies to PC and not Servers!

I can build a computer.
But I cannot for the life of my understand networks or databases or anything like that. v v

I thought I was pretty knowledgeable about computers - and I do know more than anybody else I know in "real life". However, there was a computer geek quiz in a PC magazine the other day, and out of the 50 questions I only knew the answers to 4 questions I could have maybe taken educated guesses on a few more. They were very hard tho

Linux and a number of programming languages I've been meaning to learn (Python, C++, Ruby, Smalltalk) would be the main things. Already know C# (which I absolutely love with all my heart), PHP, HTML etc.

Now that I've got a spare hard drive I might download Feisty Fawn and give Ubuntu a whirl on it Tried it once before but never really got into it.

I have a general knowledge in relation to computers so I could learn loads more in each area.

I can build a computer but there's loads I don't know about it. Same with XHTML and CSS in web design. I'm slowly building my skills in web design; i'll probably learn PHP next.

Thing is, my uni course and future job has nothing to do with IT so anything I do is just a hobby. It's hard to learn something complicated like C++ or other programming languages because i'd have no use for it.

I just like doing things I enjoy.

Perl, Lisp, Ruby ét all. Always wanted to learn at least one.

Website design - I can knock together basic HTML, CSS and Java, but that's all. I have absolutely no design sense.

Photoshop - People keep asking me to do things for them in Photoshop as they know I am experienced with computers, but I haven't a clue!

Still getting my head around multi-threaded code, especially in C++. It can really make things x10 harder to write.

Supreme Commander. I'm truly abysmal, and what ever I do, I never seem to improve.

Hardware is my strong suit. If there's some minor configuration issue I'm not sure about with a certain system I can usually figure it out in no time.

I just can't get into the programming side of it though. My mates a web designer. After about 30 seconds of him going on about various languages etc I just loose the will to carry on listening.

I can program in java very well, c++ to an extent (relatively small programs) and asm (had a module last year at uni) would be classed as knowledgable. VB.NET too I guess.

Fair enough, I class myself as a fairly capable programmer, but what drags me to the ***** is XHTML, CSS and JS.

I can do assignments in them, but only if I really sit down and grab a few web tutorials on exactly how to do it!! They just don't seem to want to fly in my mind.

Same with Photoshop, right over my head.
