Computer shutting during intensive games

I just purchased a brand new Gainward Nvidia 260 GTX to replace my previous graphics card which had given up the ghost after 3 years of hefty use. Fitted the card without problem useing the packaged 6 pin adapter to power the 2nd power input on the card since my current power supply (650w) lacked a second plug.

Now when ever I run games such as Far cry 2, Fallout 3 crysis after about 6-8 min the entire computer just powers off. Before it does I can hear the fans slowly speeding up as the card needs to cool it's self.

I'm thinking that my power supply isn't up to the job anymore. I'm running a AMD 6400+, 2 gig of DDR2 Ram, wireless card 1 sata HD, a DVD drive and a stonking great Ziman fan over the cpu.

I've used riva tuner to check for overheating and the max the gpu gets to is about 55 C and the mobo cpu temp warning which are set at 60 do not get tripped.

Now I can't afford to upgrade this psu lightly so I'm posting here for advice. I'm 90% sure it's the psu but would like someone to confirm this before I fork out for a new psu.

Thanks
Norder

Had the same issue and it turned out to be the PSU at fault, what PSU do you have? Check the amps on the 12v rail, these cards are pretty hungry! I replaced my Hiper 720w with a Corsair 750w and it stopped my machine crashing.

Would something like this cope?

PSU's unfortunalty are not something I've got a lot of experience with. I usualy just get a heigher watt psu when the previous one expires.

You need a minimum of 38amp on the 12v rail really so your PSU is almost definately whats causing your problems.
Even that OCZ PSU is cutting it fine, I got this and it does the job perfectly.
