Hi guys.

My laptop computer all of a sudden has decided not to work. When i turn it on, windows loads, gets to the login screen and then i get a blue screen with bad pool header 0x00000019 and then the lappy reboots itself.

I have tried to use "last known good configuration of winxp" but it results in the same, instead this time i can click on my user name and then the bsod occurs.

I have tried to go into safemode but it gets stuck when loading gagp30kx.sys and wont move from there:(.

There are some recovery disks with the laptop, but when i put them in it warns me that data on the C drive will be erased which i cannot afford to do as it has a lot of my work on it.

What can i do?

thanks a lot

Anyone?

Now it wont boot windows. The data on the drive is crucial, is there any way i can recover it. I am trying to use a linux live cd(ubuntu to access my ntfs but no luck in mounting them).

You can get a HDD caddy (or an external enclosure as its also called), for laptop HDD's that means, taking your laptop out of the drive, putting it into an enclosure, effectively what this does is make your laptop hdd an external, which you can then plug into an available USB port, and then transfer all your data across. Such an item is this one:

I see, could i not just take the laptop drive out and use my usb to ide adaptor that i have?

Providing it is compatible with your laptop HDD then yes, but im sure that the IDE port on a 2.5" is smaller than on a normal HDD. So if it fits then yes, otherwise you will have to get an external enclosure which will fit your laptop hdd

Thanks. I have just gone into the windows installation menu and it is showing my c drive(windows drive) as [unknown] before it said fat32. Does this mean that i have lost my data on the c drive?

Hmm that's odd :/ Looks like you might have, though don't quote me on that. best thing to do would be to try and use the Hard drive as an external before you format it if its got documents you really want to keep. Best to make sure that your HDD isn't completely borked before formatting. Hope this helps....

tbh, i ran a recovery disk and it started to format the c drive. i quickly shut it off as i thought it would give me a few more options before it went ahead.
