Computer turns on a minute after pressing power button

My friend has a computer which sometimes doesn't turn on straight away after pressing the power button but will after a minute or so by itself. Other times he has to press power multiple times and then it starts. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Same thing happened to my old PSU Antec Truepower 2.0 550W back around 2007 I noticed PC wont started after pressed power button, tried disconnected power cable and plug it back in but still same issue. Then I pressed power button every second for 1 minute and PC started fine. I told my mate about this issue and he came to had a look, did same thing disconnected power cable but changed to other power cable then plug it in and PC started normal after press power button once. But a month on it back to square one and 2 months later I cant turned PC on after pressed power button for 5 mins, realised my PSU finally died out then bought new PSU and PC started fine everytime.

It seemed your PSU is dying, what is your PSU brand, model and age?

lol that the same PSU I used now. Found out it was launched in June 2010 so it prob 3 to 4 years old now but has 7 years old warranty.

I had a strange problem with AX850 2 years ago when it wont started after press power button, I disconnected all modular cables and reconnected it and PC started fine. Same thing happened everyday for 2 weeks until it cannot started I found out ATX connector on motherboard came loosen probably caused by tightly twisted cable. I reconnected ATX cable to motherboard and PC started up normal fine everyday until now.

I suggest you to do same disconnected and removed all modular cables and then reconnected it. If issue still occur then you could need to RMA, Corsair need original owner receipt, you would need to contact original owner to ask if they will honour RMA service for you while you cover postage cost.
 
Ah ok I'll definitely try that! It would make sense actually because the cable management had to be done in a bit of a rush so lots of the cables are quite twisted and crushed. I'll try and see if the original owner has a receipt as it will still be under warranty as you say.
 
Could very well be the motherboard too, though.

Remember, the button on the front of the chassis isn't connected to the PSU at all. It's connected to the motherboard. When you press the button, it shorts two pins on the motherboard. The board then does a power good signal check on the typically gray/brown wire with the PSU and then tells the PSU to turn on via the typically green power on lead.

Yeah that's another possibility I had in mind, when I next see him I'm going to try turning the PSU on in the absense of other components and also try turning it on by shorting the two pins on the motherboard to see if the case button is gone.
