Computer turns on but no signal to monitor, even with another borrowed gfx card. Want to check if anyone here has any ideas. Phase LEDs show CPU is working plus heat sink is hot.

Using a 1156 i5, a gigabybe p55-usb3 mb and 8gb gskill ram.

Any ideas before its time to shell out for a new mb?

You connected both the 24pin and 4/8 pin aux power on the mobo? The GPU has the PCI-E power cables plugged in to?

This surely is a waste of time if the onboard doesnt work ?? Sounds like something wrong with the mobo .... have you set it to display using the onboard or pcie by setting it in the bios ? Not just resetting it...

Source on monitor too ? Checked that ?

No it's not a waste of time. Without the aux power the mobo wont POST. It's common sense to ask that everything has been connected correctly especially when the original post is so vague.

How is he going to set anything in the BIOS when there is no display or it isnt posting?

This isn't a waste of time at all. Asking about the bios settings when someone can't see the display is a waste of time.

Anyway, that aside...
You could try clearing the CMOS using the jumper. Checking the source on the monitor is the next thing i'd do. Then if that doesn't work double check your monitor actually works by plugging it into another system.

Just to double check.. do you get any kind of alarm or LEDs showing on your motherboard to suggest there is something wrong with the POST? Usually if it's an issue with the memory, CPU etc it will show a series of lights or a series of beep noises to give a hint as to what is up.

so i have cleared the bios but no luck. looking like it is a failed mobo. shame its the old 1156 which is now not available. guess its time to bite the ivybridge bullet and cell the cpu on.

no lights but i am going to re-read the manual, see if anything appears. any idea on the warranty times for gigabyte boards e.g. 1 or 2 year
