On Friday I ordered a new CPU (Intel Q9400) because my E4600 was getting boggy and was struggling with more recent games. I did about 5 hours of research on the web to make sure that the CPU was compatible with my Motherboard (ASUS P5N-D 750i). It arrived Tuesday, and I proceeded to install it into my computer at about 3PM, After I "successfully" installed it, I applied thermal compound and placed the waterblock back onto my CPU, I then followed to plug everything back in and power up my PC.
Now this is where it gets interesting. Everything turns on and powers up (All the fans spin up, power LED and HDD activity LED all blink (Power stays lit)) Yet I get aboslutely nothing appear on the screen, also the case speaker does not beep like it did previously. Previously it would beep once and proceed to the flash screen and OS. Now it makes absolutely 0 beeps.
From what I understand from googling the problem, the way to troubleshoot the issue is to remove everything except the core components (CPU, RAM, Motherboard, GPU) and try and POST again. If this fails then what I believe I should try next is to take out all the RAM and hope that the speaker beeps, to prove that my Motherboard is OK. If this works then I shall swap out the new Q9400 for my old E4600 in an attempt to check that it still works, if it does then I shall attempt to RMA the new Q9400. I cannot do this at the moment for I am currently at College using the library computers.
Any further suggestions would be appreciated, thanks for being bothered to read my poorly written desperate plee.
