I need some advice for upgrading a computer that no longer works, everything is OK apart from motherboard, ram and CPU. The cpu im thinking a E2200 and as for ram, something simple and cheap as overclocking wont be attempted so some OCZ 2x1gb 6400 for £30 should be sufficient. Motherboard on the other hand i have no idea what ot go for in this range, as i said overclocking isnt important, but reliability and ease of use is, and it has to have a pci-e 16x slot for the graphics card and onboard sound.

Finally, as the PSU is old, its only 350w, will this be sufficient to power this new spec? and what sort of motherboard connecters will be needed? because i understand that osme old PSUs lack all the cables required to connect to the motherboard.

psu it would have to be every old indeed to not have the right connectors for a mobo. whats more important is what gfx card will be uses as the power connectors have changed on them so you may need an adaptor cable. also if its to powerfull a card ithe psu may not be meaty enough to run it.

what gfx will you be using ?

I cant remember what gfx card is it atm, ill have to check in a bit. But the 350w psu did power the card, an amd athlon 64 2.0ghz, 1gb of ddr400, and the usual sort of devices, cd, hdd etc...

So can anyone recommend a motherboard for the stuff i mentioned, because idealy i would look to try and hurry up and get these parts as its to fix a broken computer that is quite important.

Would something like the Akasa 8-Pin 30cm PSU Extension Cable work to change a molex connecter into 2x 4pin, and Akasa ATX 20-Pin to ATX 24-Pin Adapter Cable to change the current ATX power into one suitable for modern motherboards?

After checking the PSU, it appears to have a 20 ATX power cable, and a 4pin motherboard cable too, im guessing this wont be enough for new motherboards will it? because my maximums uses a 24pin atx power cable, and 8pin motherboard cable. Due to the strange way the titan vantage holds the PSU, getting a new PSU isnt realy an option, so is it possible to use some sort of cable converters to get the required motherboard cables from the ones available?
