I'm plaining on upgrading my Dads basic computer as he enjoys planing the Train Simulator games, but at the moment can only play them in low/ mid graphics.

The computer he has is a Medion PCMT7 which has a Nvidia GT 210 which I want to upgrade.

Here is a picture of the inside of his computer - https://www.dropbox.com/s/3w870i12gm96s86/img1161z.jpg?dl=0

Other parts I want to upgrade are the;
PSU, Case and Fan Cooler (CPU is a Intel Core 2 Quad)

With this I really want to keep costs down as much as possible, to have the system running quiet and to run the Train Sim game in Max graphics.

Didn't see the 7850 for 60 but 750ti's are great for when your PSU isn't very powerful and can save the price of a new psu.

Also train sim uses physx but then I realised it's cpu only.

Thanks for the advice, think ill be ordering those. Any chance though about getting a fully modular PSU for about the same price as I hate having the extra cables laying about

Frick just went to order the graphics card, but guess I left it too long as it's gone now :( Can anyone recommend another card for around £80 to £100

Are you looking at a psu upgrade still?

Don't Mean to keep banging the 750ti drum but you won't need a new PSU with one and train sim is mostly cpu bound.

My dad maxes his out on a gtx470

Similar I think. They draw about 60w and through the pci slot so are perfect for when you'd like an upgrade without swapping psu.

Train sim would look great .

Oh and you can get passive ones I think.

I don't mind about the PSU but I just really want a graphics card that can play Train Sim on the highest.

The only games he plays are Train Sim, Flight Sim and the FX Pinball games.

I would need to get a new case aswell as the one his got, doesn't have any intake or exhaust fans, only a vent tunnel thing on the side of the case for the CPU.

Ok flight sim is a different kettle of fish.

Which version and what add ons?

Train sim is easy to max out...FSX impossible.

Ok well FSX is massively cpu limited but still needs a Reasonable GPU.

It also much prefers nvidia.

I'm going to stick by my 750ti recommendation, especially if it means no psu necessary.

How much ram and what OS?

I'll leave the case recommendation to other people but unless he hates it are you sure you can't just add some more fans?

Ok I can only see grille holes at the front so yes, a new case looks essential.

It's good that he has 8.1 as that means his 4gbs of ram is fully available providing fsx is up to date. 4gb is the max those sims can use but another 4gb wouldn't harm in the future. Edit..assuming 64bit windows of course.

Right I've been looking at the 750tis and wondering which version is best?

I have found two versions;

MSI GeForce GTX 750 OC 2048MB

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 "Low Profile" 2048MB

I don't mind spending abit extra if I don't need to upgrade the PSU. But i really only have £200 to spend on upgrading everything e.g. Graphics Card, PSU (If needed), Case and CPU Cooler
