Computer won't boot. I think another set of Ballistix have died.

Yesterday my computer shut itself off, and when I turned it back on it only got as far as the BIOS. But before it turned off again I noticed in flashing red writing it said "Vdimm", it had something after it but it turned off before I could see it. Now when I try to turn it on I get a long continuous. It's Award BIOS so I think this beep means memory failure, but I can't test.

I tried taking out the Ballistix (it's the PC5300 version) in slot #3, same beep. Put it back in and took out the other one, same beep. Took them both out and I get a different beep; lots of very short beeps. To be sure I took out all the other components (except for CPU, I have no thermal compound spare), and I got the same long beep. So it's probably the RAM that has died, but what are the chances of two modules failing at the same time? Could it possibly be the PSU that has died? It's an Antec SmartPower 450W.

Now, I have my old system (just the mobo/cpu/RAM), so I can test if it's the PSU that's faulty. But, like I said before I don't have my thermal compund. So how safe would it be to use my old AMD x2 3800+ without thermal compund? All I'd be doing is going to the OcUK store and getting some AS5 and cheap DDR2 RAM (assuming my RAM has died, I'm hoping osmeone here can confirm for me). Of course I'd undervolt and underclock it a lot.

Last question, if you guys think it's safe to to run the AMD without thermal compound (with stock heatsink btw), just so I can buy some stuff, should I just buy some RAM and TIM, or should I get the RMA with Crucial going instead?

Thanks for any help.

Sorry if this isn't very clear, I'm typing this really fast in school.

edit: forgot to mention, the RAM is only 3 weeks old.

Well I've just got the AMD stuff setup, so I know it wasn't the PSU or anything. It was the RAM it looks like. Going to start the RMA now.

By the way - idle temps of 29C without any thermal compound. (core temp, speedfan and BIOS all said so too). Pretty good.
