Since yesterday my computer wont boot, didn't look into the matter since now because i needed to party... :p

Anyway, when i push the power button the computer starts but it doesn't show anything and won't start really, the fans are working but i guess it doesn't go in boot mode, i'm wondering if it my mobo that is dead but i'm not sure what do you guys reckon it could be?

My hardware

GA-P35-DS3R
Intel core 2 duo 6750
2Gb RAM Corsair TwinX

could be lots of things. Strip your rig down to bare minimum and go from there. Could be a graphics card that has come loose or maybe a ram module that has failed. Do you get any beeps from the motherboard?

take out the graphics card, the ram and unplug all the hard drives, cd drives etc. so you only have the Mobo and cpu. You should hear random beeps when you turn on, add each compnent 1 by 1 until it fails to boot, starting with the essentials. Then you know thats the broken part.

Soz, not very well explained

Also try another graphics card or onboard graphics

removed everything just let the cpu and mobo, i get no beep at all... Guess my cpu or mobo is dead then :( Going to try with another gfx now but i think it's dead if its not making any beeps isnt it?

not necesarily, is your cpu heatsink seated properly

Something very wierd happened to me once. I had quite a large heavy heatsink, and it wasnt posting. I put the pc on its side and it sometimes posted. I thought the heatsink must be faulty. Turns out it was because my case wasnt good enough. You know how on most motherboards, you screw something into the case which you then screw the motherboard to. This was just random clips that clip onto the case.
From that i learned something. Never buy anything from 'fleabay' unless you know the particular product!

just to make it more complicated ive had this from a broken PSU before :(
I've also had it from not seating the HSF properly -- looked fine and felt fine but didnt boot no matter what parts is wapped until i reseated the hsf - didnt even re apply paste (rubbish work hp pc so i didnt care)

im going to have a look at the cpu, really if it doesn't even boot with just cpu and mobo and it can surely only be either of those no? The psu works fine, guessing that but i have power so..

And no i didnt try to reset the cmos, how could i do that? Is it dangerous? never did anything like that

take out cmos battery and unplug and then press the power button a few times or use a jumper or press a reset cmos button. i dont know your motherboard but a quick google will let you know. No risk involved as it just reset the bios to its standard settings.

just wanted to thank you! I would never have though of reseting the cmos tbh and it worked!! Saved me having to get my mobo out and go to the shop :p
