Computer won't overclock after failed wake-up

Last night I put my computer to sleep/standby. This morning I tried waking it up but it would power on, with the hard drive making a few noises and then after 10 secs turn back off, and then try waking up again after a few seconds. So eventually I turned the computer off by holding the power switch.

The BIOS settings are correct and unchanged (from my 3.4GHz overclock), however the boot screen shows a normal clock of 2.4 Ghz, as does CoreTemp show.

My CPU is Q6600 and mobo Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Have you tried updating your BIOS to the latest version?

I know that with my motherboard there used to be a problem with failed overclocks when trying to come out of sleep mode.

Worth a shot?

Is you're RAM overclocked?

I have had 3 Gigabyte boards over the past 2 years and all of them looped when coming out of sleep if the RAM was overclocked.

I had my E8400 at 4Ghz with the RAM at 850Mhz (stock 800Mhz) and it will loop to its hearts content but as soon as I drop the FSB to 400, it comes out of sleep no problem.

It does not seem to make a difference if the CPU is overclocked, only the RAM.

Hope that helps a little. :)

Fixed it today by clearing CMOS :)

Thanks everyone

I put it to standby (sleep) because it turns on and off faster.

Lol well to be fair I have a couple of programs that I like to run at startup, but they dont have a "minimise at launch" feature. Also for some reason my sound settings reset after each boot.

I like my computer to be in perfect state each time I turn it on :)

Good idea i often put mine to sleep for that reason but i never leave it in sleep overnight because my dad comes in does'nt realise its on sleep and then turns switches off at the wall :P
