Not sure if this is hardware or software. But computer has suddenly stopped reading dvds :( Which means I can't play COD:WAW. I have changed the dvd drive and I have even tried a IDE one rather than sata and it still says drive is empty, with several different disks.

Anyone got any idea w7 x64btw.. I'm a bit stumped.

Bump.

Got a couple of new cd's a play fine on my htpc but will not work in main computer (where I need then) just says no disc inserted.

If I do the control panel trouble shoot thing as in the guide bledd. posted I get The disc in drive F is not supported.

Any ideas just reinstalled w7 as was still on the RC, so now got 64x HP and it still says the same thing

I noticed something that might be relevant to your new issue - I have a oldish Asus DVD-RW drive (2 years old- ish, does DVD, CD too etc) and it wouldn't read about 5 of 100 cds I was ripping to my PC. I tried a newer LG BD-ROM drive (one year old) and that drive picked them up without any issues. The audio discs it wouldn't recognise were of mixed age.

I also experienced this problem on Windows 7, but I have a feeling it's an issue with some drives down at a firmware level or even hardware level. What optical drive is in your main computer?

Ones a NEC ND3540-A
The other is a samsung SH-S223

Just found another dvd drive and that plays the cd, but I obviously replaced it as the open close mechanism doesn't work. I have a feeling you are right that it's the drive at hardware/firmware. And same the one in the HTPC is a blu-ray drive.

so does that mean I have to buy a new DVD drive, humpphhh. surly standards haven't changed for dvd
