Erm, at a computer.
My computer will not turn on following a BSOD which shut the computer down. Unfortunately i was having a few beers so did not see the message, but my brother who was playing a game at the time said a BSOD came up and then the compuer shut down.

I have tried clearing the CMOS but it still wont switch on. I noticed the crucial 520w power supply fan does not come on either, does this suggest the power supply is knackered?

Any help appreciated.

Take the plug out of the wall.

Open up case take out ATX power supply that goes into the board. Reinsert this.
Put the plug back in and power her on.

If this fails change the power lead and possibly use another plug. :)

If the PSU isn't doing anything what so ever when you have it switched on at the wall I would say it's gone and you will have to replace it. When you switch it on at the mains and then press the power button does the fan in the PSU or the CPU fan not spin at all? Is there no power indicator on your motherboard?

Stripped the computer down this afternoon. I thought it was the PSU, tested it with a paper clip and it works fine. Put the computer back together and still no joy.

Tried taking each stick of ram out, then taking out first the sound card then my WinTV card, still nothing. Last time i powered on though i could smell a strong burning smell. Any ideas what has gone? the mobo?

Thanks

I'd check the backside of the mobo to be sure, especially where the ATX plug sits and around the CPU. I know its a pain to remove the mobo totally but you should rule it out.

Had a busy few weeks at work so havnt had time to have a proper look at the computer. Re-seated the CPU, and checked the board and components for any scorch marks. Still no joy, getting seriously pi$$ed off with it now. Gona take it to the shop tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestions
