I have a line-interactive UPS with surge and spike protection to protect my PCs. I count it £200 well spent.

Too rich for me but I've ordered a belkin surge protector for £20.

Total up the amount you've spent on your PCs and peripherals and compare the cost.

Looks like Seasonic protection did its job. A lesser PSU might have nuked the system. I wouldn’t run much without surge protection myself.
