Computer Won't Turn On

Hi the most flaky things are PSU, memory and motherboard.

You can try aone stock of memory and then the other, assuming you have two - or use known good memory.

Try reseating everything.

Try a known good PSU.

Finally you may need to buy an ebay motherboard and chance your arm.

If it is the same model or similar I think it will work. Some operating systems are tied to a motherboard but usually you can get them to work. A regular reinstall is always good, just make sure you do not wipe your data held on the OS drive.

Changing over the motherboard is not a difficult task, you need good light, a medium sized philps scredriver and don't drop it on the motherboard. See if you can get a techy mate to help you. Lure them with sweets and crisps.

I would build outside the case as suggested. It's dead easy. If that fails you can get someone to put it back together. I'm sure someone on here lives local to you who could help with that.

What psu have you got? (fan may turn off untill it is it is under sufficient load)

Apparently the dram light flashing once and the green light staying on indicates the computer should be working ok.

Have you checked the dvi/hdmi cable to the monitor?

Also, if you are using a graphics card, make sure the monitor cable is plugged into this and not the motherboard.

If it worked fine before you moved and now it won't then don't be so quick to assume it's the mobo.

Try unplugging ALL power connections into the mobo and re-connecting them.

Disconnect as much ancillary stuff as you can so you just have the basics (ie remove gfx card, additional HDD's and so on)

Try moving the RAM about.

I had something vey similar after moving my PC and it turned out to be a loose connection.

It's all working fine now but the fan still turns off on the PSU and the red button still flashes when it turns on.

[EDIT] So, it could be that the PSU doesn't need to go on as it isn't under enough stress but is it normal for the red light to come on?
