Computers used in TV and the movies

Had that for a while! Then the sound of Hudson from Aliens saying "Game over man" etc. That got a bit annoying after while as well!

Same here... eventually all got turned off again.

It was relaucned with Windows 98 and the themes but again after a few weeks it got very dull and annoying.

Since Windows 3.0 IIRC... man the wav file of Arnie saying "I'll be back" for everyone closing windows was hilarious... ;)

We used to have "Good morning Vietnam!" on loadup of windows. Drove me nuts after a while. Saying that the windows theme that plays on startup now really annoys as well.

2000? thats pretty new. I saw a nationwide cash machine showing illegal operation recently running 95. ;)

This was a Nationwide machine too! I don't know to be honest, it might've been 95, I only really glanced. It wasn't actually Windows that had crashed though, I think they were fixing a mechanical fault of some kind.

Are you sure it wasnt OS/2?

Cartman saying 'That sucked ass' when something crashed got quite annoying, esp as it was in W98!!

WRT OP, the best TV computers are the 'image enhancing' ones: take a rubbish video of someone in a mirror in the dark when its foggy and get a perfect mugshot!

Think long and hard about posintg next time! Since when have you EVER heard a computer make fancy noises as you 'upload' or 'download' data from the net or USB stick or otherwise!? LMAO

Me and few friends reckon it would be better if, when Jack plugs a USB stick into the computer, the infamous 'do do' MS Sound plays, and when he removes it....'de do'.....now THAT would add a certain element of humour!!

:D

I do love the representation of computers in films, mainly because its almost all so removed from reality as to be pure nonesense.
The 2nd Matrix (reloaded?) is the only one that has a normal computer interaction in it when Trinity hacks into the power grid using NMAP and a well known windows security hole.

In one CSI episode they were investingating something relating to an internet 'webcam' porn site, and throughout 99% of the film everything was technically correct (apart from the mysterious graphical way the computer pieced together data off a 'blanked' hard disk), which suggests the writers had technical consultants involved. Then they came to identifying the workstation where the e-mail had come from and they listed a 5 number IP address. Doh! WHY?!? It would have been better to have chosen a private address than something impossible like that. Of course it also ignored that communication would have come from a NATed address, or just one of a small number of public addresses, and so on and so forth.

I think my favourite was in Jurassic Park towards the end where the girl was flying about a series of coloured boxes - it's a UNIX system!

If only UNIX was that much fun!

Beats having a mac flashed at you every time, I mean, Jesus, how much money does apple spend on Hollywood comercials?

It had Win 95 on, thats why i knwo it asnt me or 2000 :D

I love the way everything they use opens instantly, not the instantly a fast computer does it, but even faster. And the instant connecting and downloading/uploading fron the internet. I want the average americans connection, it must be about 100Mb/s both ways.

something that gets me is most films NEVER have a mouse, the characters just wack a few keys, and hey presto they access some sort of file or run a program.

**** me, I was just about to say that.

More recent classic mess ups that spring to mind from Alias. Sydney is breaking into a lab and opening a few ports on the firewall to allow her partner (Dixon) to pull the data.

So far so good. Even had one of them fancy folding keyboards so it really fitted with the stealthy scene. Then it happened....

Syd: Dixon, come in.
Dixon: I read you.
Syd: The IP is 257.x.x.x

I actually had to rewind the DVD and watch/listen again to confirm what I had heard

Meh was funny to me anyway :(

Last summer when i use to work in ladbrokes i noticed the cash quest machines when you boot them up they are running XP.They are basicly a PC in a box with a touch screen.
