My 1yr old'ish Sammy F1 1TB just made a horrific grinding noise and disappeared from windows. It then came back to life and was working fine - error scan in hdtune revealed no problems. About 15 minutes later it made another similar horrific noise but carried on working fine. I ran an error check again and it was still ok.
What is a worry is that it has been perfect all this time running in an icybox via usb, but I have just recently moved it to the icybox dock in a 5.25" bay and connected it via sata. A few days have passed and now this has happened....
Is this a sign of imminent death for this hard drive, or could it be some sort of temporary power fault / weirdness - as it is working ok at present and passes all tests i've done.
Going to run the Samsung ES-tool utility tonight but if that does not find any problems can I actually send the drive back to Samsung??
