Concert dilemma: Postal Service or Massive Attack

I have a dilemma for next year that I can't decide on. I have tickets to see The Postal Service in London and Massive Attack in Bristol. The problem is, out of the 365 days in a year, they're both on the same night.

Both hold a special place for me. TPS's Give Up is my favourite album of all time, whereas Massive Attack are my favourite band of all time (with Mezzanine being just behind Give Up).

TPS:

- Never tour, likely won't be back to UK.
- Only one album, so likely shorter set.
- Get to see Death Cab for Cutie.
- London means a hotel and extra travel, but also an extra night out for me and the Mrs.

MA:

- Getting on, likely won't tour much longer.
- Homecoming gig and more material, likely play a longer set.
- Have friends going, and can stay at their place, so cheaper.
- Much prefer Bristol as a city (friendlier).

Everyone I know is siding with Massive Attack because they're much more popular over here, but I honestly can't decide. Is there anyone here who likes or has seen both who can help me out?

This is a dilemma I never expected or wanted.

I'm not familiar with The Postal Service, but surely everyone knows Massive Attack?! @Malevolence Massive Attack, Portishead and Tricky (as a separate musician) were the "3" if you're in your 40s now. If you're in your 20s, then I'll let you off :p

@Hellsmk2 - I would go with The Postal Service, as you said it's unlikely that they'll tour over here again. My logic is that I'm a Chemical Brothers fan who were big in the 90s, and thus they're getting on too age-wise like with Massive Attack, but they are still touring. I saw the Chemicals last month :-)

I been listening to the postal service for the first time because of this.

Weird little 8bit/16bit sounding tunes with lots of lyrics. Whiny American man and sometimes a very tuneful woman.

I don't dislike it, it reminds me of belle and Sebastian but very electronic.

Would they be any good in a concert or do they just sit there singing while a sequencer plays the music?

TPS every day.

Seen Massive Attack a number of times and don't think they're much of a live band.

I'm glad someone said that as I've seen them once and had the same feeling tbh and I love their albums. Maybe sat down in a smokey club with a big bifta on they'd be great, but I felt it was just a bit too 'relaxed' for a standing up gig :o

The Postal Service
Hear me out, just give it a thought.

Goto Portugal 28th Aug, come back on the 1st September.

Aug 29, 2024 - Aug 31,
Meo Kalorama Lisbon, Portugal

It's not a totally unreasonable thing to consider.

I've travelled abroad for a gig, it's a good time and a different experience.

There's a live album on Spotify... It's a supergroup with established artists in their own right, so would be a very tight gig.

Lead singer is from Death Cab for Cutie, you have Dntel on all things electronic, and Jenny Lewis on vocals. All three extremely successful on their own already.
