Condensation causing mould in winter - Main bedroom

You don't need to run it overnight. Just running for half an hour in the evening gets it down from 80% to 50%.
That would do almost nothing in my house. Running it for 2 hours Vs 24/7 makes almost no difference except 24/7 keeps a steady level. They're designed to be left on, not turned on and off.

Yours maybe. Mine gets the humidity out the air in no time, would be pointless leaving it on.

Dehumidifier (refrigerant style), problem solved. Get a Meaco that auto switches off. You don’t even need it on that much.

No, that's how they're designed to be used. Mine gets the moisture out of the air in no time, but I'm not letting it go as high as 80% to then bring it down to 55% when I can have it do it automatically and come on for maybe 5 mins every hour to keep it at 53-57%
It samples the air a few times an hour then decides if it needs to switch on. Why would I want to do that manually.

"Chris Michael, Managing Director of Meaco, says that it’s best to just let the dehumidifier run on Smart Humidity Mode. “Set the dehumidifier to 50 or 55%rh and then just leave it. Let it decide when it must run and when it should turn off, that is best for your home and for your own health. Turning it on and off manually is a false economy.”

Not with it shut tight, then you are only removing the moisture in the room it is in, eg the landing and the spaces where connected to it without a door shut.
We usually sleep with the door pulled too, but not completely closed, just in case the dog whines to go out, in the middle of the night (rare, but occasionally happens)

I can either set it up in the bedroom and but not at night when we are asleep

or

run it in the hallway.

Guess I can try both and see what works best.
