Hello, I have a few months with a spare pc so just set up this folding thing, great guide, I assume you had to delete the -configonly bit from the shortcut before running it?

I keep the shortcut around so it saves me 0.001 seconds the next time I want to configure it. There's not much need to get rid of it as far as I can tell. Once you've configured it you will access it only from the services control menu.

Is there anything about which I should be more clear in the guide? ;)

It's an excellent guide, I am hopeless at getting things running so to have it running is an achievement. Well done.:) As an example I bought HL2, the source bit doesn't run and so I haven't played it yet......

I want to try and use the 2nd core tomorrow, as well as changing the machine number do you have to do another registry edit?

I'm still a bit unsure how you shut down and start the folding programs up though.

The process for installing a 2nd instance is exactly the same as it was for installing the first instance with one caveat. With the first one you probably left the machine ID number as 1. That's fine. However, to get a 2nd one to run you'll have to give the 2nd instance a different machine ID. 2 would do just fine. This is to keep the instances from getting themselves confused. Each instance running on the computer has to have a unique machine ID.

Go to Start --> Run --> type in services.msc --> Hit enter --> scroll down to the entry that begins with "FAH"

From there you can start or stop the running process. You can also tell it to not start up with the rest of the computer from there.

Or just right click on my computer and select Manage, double click services, double click services (in the new list) and hay presto the services list.

I'm sure there are loads of ways to do most anything on the machine. I listed the one I use which is also the one mentioned in the sticky. You know, for consistency's sake.;)

Gosh, so many suggestions, thanks.:)

I'll try the first method first, the batch files look a bit complicated, I'll work my way up to them as my confidence grows.

You need not feel hesitant. Every detail is in the guide. There isn't much else to it. It's just a text file that tells the service to start or stop. :)

Well, were now running on 2 cores, 2 different folding thingies. Excellent.:)
w00t! Perhaps once you're more accustomed to FAH and when the client is a little more stable you should have a go with the Windows SMP client. It's made for multi-proc machines like you have and it offers greater performance. The cost, ATM, is that it's not yet a stable release and it's packed full of fun and zany bugs. :p

Thanks for your help.:)

I'm going to let this chug along unmolested for a few days and get a feel for it. I'm going to try the GPU one on one of the 1950's too.

I'll have a whirl at the SMP maybe next week, but right now it's got 2 days to go on it's current proteins.......
