Confirming whether its a dead PSU

That's not good. I thought with OCUK handling the warranty that they would test it and if found faulty would send you a replacement. I didn't expect them to send it off to the manufacturer which could leave you without a psu for weeks.

The BIOS battery take out makes no difference nor does removing braided cable extensions or replacing the main cables

That's strange!

If you connect a few molex components, do you get power? What about some fans? CD/DVD Drive? Mechanical drives?

I connected just the 24 and 4 pin power cables - fans still connected on the board and nothing but the standard motherboard LED's are lighting up

Ok, you need to make sure the PSU is providing power and not just "spinning". Do you have any 7v adapters for the fans you can connect directly to the molex on the PSU?

No I haven't. It was so weird as then I just tried plugging the power cables in one by one into the PSU and it was powering on each time until the last one went in. Now its all off again!

You won't believe this.

It's my 2nd GTX 980!

Tried booting with everything but it and it works. Swap it to run on its own and nothing boots.

Tried it supporting the working 980 in the 2nd PCI-E slot to make sure it wasn't the 3rd slot.

Can't believe it!
