Hi guys,

Living in rural Buckinghamshire and have been on 1.5-2Mb since ADSL came to the area. Unfortunately being so far from the exchange anything more became unstable and so all the ISP's I've tried (too many to list) have just slowed the connection till it was stable.

I bought an Asus N55 after O2 screwed me over on the router front and its been great for a while now :)

Just been emailed by connected counties saying that VDSL is now in my area and I've been wondering if I now need to go out and buy another router? I really don't fancy going with BT as they screwed me over worse than O2 did and no way am I going back to a Netgear jobby that Sky had me on.

So to sum this up quickly, will my router work with VDSL and if not what would be a good replacement for the Asus?

Your router will work as long as you have the separate Openreach FTTC modem.

Many of the ISPs still use separate modems, and if not they can be picked up fairly cheaply on that auction site.

what will your ISP supply when you order fibre?

With this option would I need a separate modem?

I currently have ADSL: Phone line > Asus N55 > ethernet cable > My PC

Would VDSL be: Phone line > Modem > Asus N55 (with that firmware update) > ethernet cable > My PC?

I had NTL (back when I lived in Surrey) and I had a modem I rented from them and then bought myself a hub/switch for all the PCs (before wifi), but having used an ADSL Router where everything was in one unit I wasn't sure if VDSL was the same.

Are there any VDSL routers that have the modem built in that can be recommended?

Also 'IF' I were to go back to BT would the above third party modem/router work with BT Infinity?

If you want the white modem then just ask at the time of placing the order with your ISP. They are still allocated to the jobs and paid for.
