Confused by memory!!

Hi people

Hoping someone can help me with what I am sure is a simple question for some of you? :o

I am looking to upgrade my hardware.

I have bought a Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H AMD 785G Socket AM3 ATX Motherboard and will be running an AMD Athlon II X4 620 Quad Core 2.6GHz 95W 2mb Cache AM3 CPU on it.

I am stuck on the memory though.

I want DDR3 4GB (dual channel). I am a little restricted on budget but don't need to go bargain basement. Upper limit of about £80.

Are any of these compatible (and or decent)?

OCZ Obsidian 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 Dual Channel
Patriot Sector 5 G Series 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz Dual Channel
4GB G.Skill NQ DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333MHz)

I notice quite a lot say "compatible with..." and usually it is Intel chipsets. Does this mean that they will not work in my configuration?

If not, can someone guide me please to memory that is compatible?

All help very greatfully received.

Thanks :)

They'll be fine. DDR3 RAM is interchangeable - when the manfacturers say "Compatible" they mean Optimised.

Also be aware that AMD CPU's only support 2 DIMM's at 1333Mhz anything above is considered overclocking.

You should be able to get them to work but you'll have to play around with setttings.

Thanks for replies and sorry for crosspost. Wasn't sure which home it better belonged in, so did both. Will know better next time.

wozencl - does this mean that if I wanted to expand my memory later on to say 8GB by using another dual kit of the same configuration to add to the existing 4GB, the CPU would ignore these additons?

No. You're almost certainly going to encounter difficulties getting them to work, especially if they're double sided DIMM's.

You'll need to experiment with memory voltage - gradually increase it and will need to drop the speeds. I'm guessing to 1066MHz.
