Hi. I'm having trouble with BT Business broadband. I've got three static ip addresses and a Netgear DG814 modem. The problem is when i select static ip mode on the router, i get three boxes, ip address, subnet mask, and gateway address. then two more for DNS server. I can't see how i can use all three static addresses if i can only enter one in the netgear router?

Are you sure you have 3 static IP addresses, as 3 doesn't sound right.

You could have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.252 which gives you 4 IP's, 2 of which are 'usable' (you lose 2 IP's, namely the first and the last as one is the network address, and the other is the broadcast address).

Alternatively you may have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.248 which gives you 8 IP's, 6 of which are usable.

As far as I'm aware, BT do allocate normal network blocks, so I believe you should have either 4 IP's (2 usable) or 8 IP's (6 usable)

Hi. Are you talking about the WAN (i.e. Internet/BT) settings or the LAN (your local PC's and printers) settings on the router?

Assuming it's the WAN, then I agree with 'wasc' that 3 static addresses sounds odd, I'd expect you to have one which your router is allocated by BT each time it's turned on or rebooted - If you set the router to dynamically get it's IP settings from BT, what does it get? I don't know how BT Business broadband works but I wouldn't expect them, to expect you, to manually enter all the details you mention (but I could be wrong!) such as the IP, DNS etc.
