Confused!

My 750W SuperFlower Leadex Gold handles a factory oc'd R9 290 just fine. Had to RMA the card though (not PSU related). My other PC is using a 600W Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold PSU and it handles a factory oc'd R9 280X just fine too.

How can I test this I have the card running not but I have noticed a few stutters in Grid 2 and even fifa when running other things in the background, although could be the cpu though I think a i5 3750k should be more than enough

That's interesting cos when I got my 290 i was told i would need a 750W PSU , so I ordered one ..wish I had known different as I have a Seasonic 650W in a box not being used

They just cover themselves in case some people are using cheapo no-name power supplies that can't handle anywhere near their stated output. A good 650W PSU is plenty for a single R9 290 setup. A couple of companies including Sapphire recommend a 750W PSU for an R9 280X (basically a 7970)... We all know that's crazy talk :D

My 2p: you'll notice improvement as 660Ti is mid-range card and ensures you with good quality for a budget, but R9 290 is (in the mid of) high-range card delivering almost full fluency (no frampedrops under fluency level = 60Hz).

(760 is something like 660Ti, but has more ROPs which gives a bit better performance with AA=on). More VRAM will do own job as well. So good choice (I've got 660Ti as well BTW), but don;t forget to clean up system after upgrade (download a DDU and use it before installing new nVidia drivers).

PSU is to be changed, one calls it "cooler disaster" for some reason :) Antec, Bequiet, Corsair, Enermax, Sesonic, SuperFlower, XFX etc.

Are you really recommending a 760 as a viable upgrade to a 660 over a 290?
