Hi all

I thought id have my first go at overclocking my Q6600, so i updated my bios, and downloaded the Gigabyte easytune 6 Program (the booklet i got with my mobo recommended it)

When easytune loads, it says on the CPU clock that my CPU is running at 1605.87MHz

Has updating my bios done this?

Thanks!

i may be wrong but you divide that 1605mhz (rated fsb) by 4 so your fsb is 400
open cpu-z and it will give you the proper reading.

you are either at 9 x 400 = 3600 or 3.6GHz
or 8 x 400 = 3200 or 3.2GHz

look here at PCZs pic of cpu-z (1/2 way down) http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17757702&page=75
he has his at 3.6

also you are better off overclocking in the bios and not easytune, imo
what is your default ram timings, it will say on the box or the ram sticks themselves,

I shall d/l CPUZ and have a look, it can't be over stock as i havnt started the OC yet.

Also, the boxes for the RAM are long gone, and i don't know the timings off the top of my head, :(

Ok ive installed CPUZ, and it tells me....

Core speed :1600MHz
Multiplier : X6.0
Bus Speed: 266.7MHz
reted FSB: 1066.0MHz

What can i do to bring the cpu back tp normal speed?

At stock a Q6600 is 2.4GHz i.e. 266MHz x 9.

Speedstep drops the multiplier to 6 so the idle speed is 266MHz x 6 i.e. 1.6GHz.

You don't have a problem, it's just speedstep saving you some money on your electricity bill.

Run a program such as Prime95 to stress the CPU and the speed will go up.
