Confusion reigns over whether UK will get 20GB PS3

If they are giong to be £60 a pop, then I predict that console is gonna die a death very quickly.

They dont need to be blu-ray to be region free. However since not all tvs support ntsc and pal, they would all have to be blu-ray so they could fit different versions on one disk.

Exactly what i meant, but couldn't be bothered to type :o

They can, but Sony said that games would only ever be on DVD's for cost reasons.

Mind citing where you got this information? What you are saying sounds ludicrous.

Hmm I don't think so.

Im pretty sure Sony said that all PS3 games will be blu-ray from the start. They also need to be blu-ray for them to be region-free.

If I remember from watching the whole PS3 pre-E3 conference presentation, what the guy said was that they will begin with DVD based games, the vast majority of early games being soley on DVD, and then after a few years, as developers make more content for games, Blu-Ray games will then become the most common, and DVD games less common, like CDs and DVD on the PS2.

I doubt Sony will release games on Blu-Ray to begin with as they'll cost a lot more money to produce, and there will be far too many Gigabytes of space wasted on the disks, and all games will likely be able to fit everything on the 9GB capacity DVDs.

Phil Harrison said that blu-ray capacity allows game publishers to release games in all formats on one disc, making them region-free. He also states that all games will be region free, suggesting that all games will be blu-ray.
I hope there are some games on DVD though, if that lowers prices of some games.

Anyway, back on topic, ive just been reading a discussion in a PS3 forum about the 20GB version. Some interesting points were brought up about whether the 'cheap' version is actually as bad as people seem to think.
It still does HDTV resolutions over the multi-av cable, and the HDD can be easily upgraded as it is detachable, which has been confirmed by Phil Harrison. The only drawbacks are no card reader and no wifi. I imagine a lot of PS3 owners will have no PSP or wireless internet, so some wont even need the wifi.

It was in a press release that was posted here several months ago...
However, after some sleep I _may_ be confused with Microsoft saying they would never produce Xbox360 games on HD-DVD.
