Sometimes when i'm playing quake 4 the game stops and closes and goes to my desktop. On its own displaying the desktop the temperature of the Connect 3D X1900XT card is about 45 degrees and in game its about 62-65 degrees. Could this be the cause of the closing? As i have not overclocked the card. I have a zalman cooler which i will be putting on soon. So does the temperature have anything to do with this?

So what could be the problem? Its only happened a couple of times i have all the settings on max but the card seems to handle them fine. Any other suggestions?

Thats normal, in fact thats better than normal on the stock cooler as the x1900's normally hit about 80+, got an x1800 XT here that idles at 59, and underload goes to about 71-72. :)

Could be a driver issue, have you tried any other drivers.

Buggy game maybe? Something else in your PC overheating? Instability caused by overclocking?

Is it only Quake 4, do Doom 3 or Prey do it too, since they use the same engine.

Quake 4 still does it after a certain level in the game it seems to be. Prey and doom 3 don't seem to do it and i have updated all the drivers. Any suggestions?

Memory or CPU maybe Power supply, when It all stops talking correctly ATI recovers it to the Desktop, turn the function off and You will get a bluescreen with numbers ....that may not help either ;)

Quick check of windows error logs may help

Make sure to measure the temperature whilst playing the game because temps drop rapidly after quiting the game. Leave the ATI Tray Tools monitoring graphs running while the game is running, you can check the graph and stats to see how high the temps go.

If other games are running fine then its most likely a software issue with the game. Make sure everything is up to date, i.e. chipset drivers, graphics, audio. Update the game to the latest and reinstall it if you have to. Leave settings at default don't try to tweak anything, see if it works that way.

Also, do you get any error messages when it quits? I'd recommend checking event viewer for any clues.
