Connecting 2 computers via wireless?

Hi.

My pc has a wireless dongle and my lappy has built in wireless, my PC gets the internet through wired lan, so would it be possible for me to connect my lappy to my PC directly using wireless? So I can use ICS through it and share files etc....?

Depends on the wireless dongle and whether it works in AP mode (unlikely).

Will that allow me to recive internet on my laptop connecting through my desktop? I thought homegroup was just a more secure way of sharing files?

I've looked up this ad-hoc thing, as it's abit worrying, seems it may work, but apparently it's not very secure, would mean I would need to install software firewalls?
