yes its someone elses 'gig' but i intervened basically which is what he'd want me to do. Also its networking which is my field. Really it should have been stated that that guy deals with cameras and i deal with deciding on the network infrastructure. but hey ho least i stated what i thought.

I could have said nothing but i didnt.

so is BT responsible for the broadband or not?[/QUOTE

yes BT provides broadband through exchanges which they own

but the Corporate side of BT is very different. Company's use them and pay lots of money for very expensive contracts for comms.

When your link between your server farm and all your branches gets severed, and the whole business grinds to a halt, IT managers tend to get very irate. And as these IT managers spend lots of money with big money contracts, they tend to take notice.

BT very rarely has problems on a user level. It will be all or nothing. So when your site link goes, everybody's will more than likely go. Because of the money involved, BT will take much more interest in it than they will for broadband customers paying £20 a month or whatever, when corporate customers are contributing tens of thousands per month.

It is just because there is an SLA, there isn't on on normal ADSL.

If it stays down BT lose money, It is the only thing that will make them work. :p

i allways have a habit of explaining things the long way round lol

the reason they do something is because there is an SLA in place, and the SLA is there because of the ammount of money involved and the fact that corporate customers require an SLA as they need reliability. if they cant have that, then they'll take their money elsewhere.

Oi, Lex,
you let another thread die... :p

so what happened?
did you get a good LES quote of BT or what ?

.

Basically i got a site survey done by radio & laser company. I've decided to go with wireless radio! minimal interference and the distance is more than within range. considerably cheaper and basically what i want.

I'm thinking the wireless laser is really only used for point to point or point to multi point at the greatest. Radio is more feasible for a mesh network in my opinion.

What speeds can they offer?

up to 74kbps. I dont need up to a gigabyte or even 100mbps just transferring data across about 400meters! I got told it was up to 1k! Good thing i went down there myself and used a gprs gizmo to find out. the surveyor was like 'this is not a problem at all its simple blah blah' which is what i wanted to hear.
