Hi guys, id like to know how to connect my electric guitar to my macbook, so i can have a play with 'Garage Band'. Is it something as simple as a 1/4 Stereo Socket to 3.5mm Stereo Plug Adaptor. Or do i need something else?
Thanks

definatly go for something like the pod studio gx from line 6.. me and my flatmate have two running on a mac and a pc and there so simple to use with the software they give you.

also comes with pod farm which includes an array of diffrent amp types, effects etc

good choice if your looking to connect a guitar to a computer be it a mac or pc.

err... would just like to say i have connected my geetar to my macbook on many occasion and it works fine  - has plenty of different amp/distortion effects and does the job quite nicely i thought?

i'll have a look at that other one mentioned cuz things can always be done better but i've nothing against garage band so far...

how did you connect it mate?

You can do it via the audio in jack, but it won't run at the right level.

It's best to get a good preamp / guitar interface so you get the best recording levels.

So to use the audio in jack all i need is a 1/4 to 3.5mm adapter and just plug my guitar in and run garage band?

Yup, but as stated you won't get a very strong input signal. It's good for just practicing/playing around but if you're going to be recording it's best to put it through an external amp before lining into the computer.

Thanks for that, all i want is just a bit of a play around at the moment. So this sounds like the cheapest option.
Cheers guys. :)
