My external HD seems to be up the spout and not getting recognised in "my computer" (code 10 error in device manager)!

i've removed the casing and the HD seems to have 47 pins. how can i connect that to my MB? I want to see if it's just the USB interface that's causing the error...

Any help much appreciate - got 4 years of accounts backed up on it

You seem to have a 2.5" ide laptop type hard disk. If thats the case, you will need an 3.5" IDE - 2.5" IDE Laptop HDD Adapter Cable.

Google 3.5" IDE - 2.5" IDE Laptop HDD Adapter Cable and you will see what I am refering to.

Basically the adapter connects your hard disk to an IDE socket on your desktop motherboard.

Thanks Scream :)

Have found one in a local shop so will give it a go this evening.

Are there any good (preferably free:)) HD diagnostic tools anyone has had any success with?
