Hi quick question.

I quite often have to sort out friends and family computers when they have managed to fill them up with viruses, spyware all that normal stuff. So i usally have to do a full format, makes life easier.

But as they have so much data on them I usually take there HD's out of there computer, temp connect them to mine (be it Sata or IDE) and copy across to my PC all there data / music / photos etc that NEEDS to be saved before plugging back into there computer and doing a format and reinstall of the OS.

Is there a simpler way of what I am doing. As perhaps in a USB cable from there SATA / IDE HD to my computers USB port as I have to have cables all over the place, HD resting here and there. just very untidy. Time consuming taking HD's out etc

Just thought someone may know of a easier way.

Thanks

In face, think i just found JUST the thing.....

Edit, Maybe classed as a competitor...

Cheers for the heads up about competitors, it would be considered just so. Someone may come round with there hammer.. ;)

I was under the impression though that those decent IDE/SATA combination USB2 caddy's were either SATA or IDE so in theory I would need one of each ?

could do, problem is there is this one computer I am about to sort out, that I built about a year ago, and it has loads of spyware etc on, but also just keeps turning itself off for no reason, temps seem fine, everything is working ok, just randomly turns itself off.
BUT it seems to have something to do with "I get a pop up when i turn there PC on" Something about failed to load C: My webs,.dll etc, so When i find that in registry and delete it, it powers off the pc", so thinking a format may be needed.

soon find out. not sure about boot viruses though, I was just going to save some of there data on my HD and reformat theres and send there data back across when done.
