Connecting HDD to laptop

Hi,
I have an old 40GB HDD drive at home which runs on normal IDE cables. I have no computer to put this HDD in but it has a lot of files that I would like to retrieve on. Basically is there any way I could plug this IDE HDD into a USB port on my laptop?

I have seen a converter somewhere but I don't really know if these products are any good or worth purchasing?

Don't offhand know of a naked converter as such, but get yourself an IDE hdd enclosure like an IcyBox (with USB of course) and you're all set.

2.5" laptop drive convertor to 3.5" IDE is around £3
Or pickup a 2.5" HD USB 2 box.

Wouldn't that be for connecting a laptop HDD to a PC? I need to connect a PC Hard Disk to my laptop?

ah right I read it wrong sorry.
To connect 3.5" drive to a laptop buy 3.5" or 5.25" external firewire/usb 2 box

You could use a IDE to USB converter - I bought one last year to use with a DVD burner.
